一、 What is HDBaseT?
HDBaseT is a high-definition digital display interface that provides an all-in-one connection between a high-definition video source and a remote display via a 100 m/328 ft CAT5e/6 cable, providing uncompressed HD 4k video, audio, Ethernet, control signals, and up to 100 watts of power.
It is a data transmission technology developed by Sony, LG, Samsung and a consortium of semiconductor companies from Japan and South Korea, which passed Intel's HDCP certification in 2009 and determined the official specification of HDBaseT 1.0 at the end of June 2010.
HDBaseT does not redesign a new interface like HDMI and Display Port, but uses the 8P8C (RJ45) interface, commonly known as the crystal head or Ethernet interface, and the transmission medium uses a network cable that is very easy to obtain and familiar with. In addition to video signal transmission, the HDBaseT standard also provides network connectivity and Power over Ethernet (POE) capabilities. Therefore, HDBaseT technology is a transmission technology that can perform multiple functions with only one wire.
二、What is the function of the HDBaseT interface and what is the difference between HDMI and HDMI
Usually to do video transmission, we have to get a variety of video signals, USB signals, hdmi cables, power cables, etc., is a headache, wiring is becoming more and more complicated!
How do you get a single line to transmit all of these signals?
HDBaseT technology solves this problem with a single network cable.
1. The shortcomings of HDMl make HDBaseT
HDMI only transmits audio and video signals, and the distance is also limited in length, and the quality of a good brand HDMI signal can only be maintained for about 30 meters, and the price of cable is also high for most users. Although there are some other wireless technologies that can be used as alternatives to HDMI, their biggest problem is that there is no power transmission channel, and it is difficult to break through the transmission rate.
In addition, there is a fee to join the HDMI Alliance, and there is also a licensing fee to use the protocol, so the HDBaseT Alliance, which consists of Sony, Samsung, LG and Wallence Semiconductor, has developed the HDBaseT solution to solve the above problems. From a certain point of view, HDBaseT can also be seen as a product of the vendors' resistance to the HDMI alliance.
2. The role and implementation of HDBaseT
HDBaseT is a network-based standard that can centralize audio, video, network, control signals, and power supply lines and use ordinary network cables as transmission cables to transmit them.
HDBaseT is the simplest and lowest cost solution to meet user requirements. Therefore, the wire does not need to be specially made. HDBaseT uses the current Cat5e/6 network cable as a screen signal cable, which can not only transmit video and voice, but also retain the function of the network cable itself. There is no doubt that the cost of HDBaseT is much lower than that of HDMI, which requires additional connectors and cables. HDBaseT will directly use the existing network cable connectors, and the cables will also directly support the common RJ45 network cables.
3. Advantages of HDBaseT:
1. HDMI cable generally has a transmission distance of only about 30 meters, which greatly limits the use of high-definition equipment, while HDBaseT transmission distance can reach 100 meters.
2. HDMI cables are expensive, and HDBaseT uses cheap and readily available CAT5/6 Ethernet cables as the transmission medium.
3. HDMI is a closed standard, and manufacturers need to pay a certain license fee to use the HDMI interface, while HDBaseT is an open standard and does not need to pay additional fees.
4. The HDBaseT standard currently supports a transmission rate of 20Gb/s, which is 4 times the HDMI transmission rate of 5Gb/s, which can fully meet all uncompressed 1080p or clearer 4Kx2K video transmission.
4. Application of HDBaseT
There are many high-definition cameras with HDBaseT function, which are suitable for PTZ high-definition color cameras in the fields of recording and broadcasting teaching, remote meetings, cloud conferences, online classrooms, surgical teaching, court trials, enterprises and telemedicine applications.
